Problem
Mineral Meditation allows for users to engage in guided crystal meditation sessions, while also keeping track of their favorite crystals. However, the app’s current design is outdated and lacks user-friendly features. Mineral Meditation is looking for a redesign that enhances both its aesthetics and usability.
Process
User Personas
The first step in my mobile design process is to conduct research on the existing app and it’s user needs. After analyzing this information and identifying user personas, I have a better understanding for areas where the app can be improved.
Information Architecture
The next step in my process is to create an information architecture. Creating a clear and well-organized information architecture is essential for any app redesign project. It will create an organized and structured sitemap for where content should lie within the app.
User Flow Diagrams
Once this is complete, it is time to move on to constructing user flow diagrams. User flow diagrams help visualize the journey a user takes through an app. That is why each diagram is made to reach its own user goal i.e., “Edit User Profile.”
Wireframes
With the user flows complete, wireframes can begin to come to life. Wireframes are a crucial aspect in the mobile redesign process, as they provide a visual representation of the app’s layout, structure, and functionality. Wireframes were created to correspond with each user flow diagram.
Brand Identity & UI Tool Kit
A UI toolkit and branding kit help ensure consistency across an app’s design elements. Creating these kits can promote efficiency in the design process and reduce the risk of inconsistencies in the final product. Here, the brand identity is established which helps to reinforce a presence amongst competitors.
Solution
I was able to use all of the user interface assets to assemble cohesive screen designs for Mineral Meditation.
As for prototyping, I decided to model three user goals. Using XD’s prototyping tools, I created interactive screens that simulate how the app will function. This allows a web developer to see how users will navigate through various screens and features.
Impact
After sharing my prototype with users and gather feedback, I made some small but necessary changes to improve the usability. Once the design was finalized, it was approved and ready to be handed off to a web developer.
Mineral Meditation was provided with an effective mobile redesign that allows for peak aesthetics and functionality.
