Problem

Goodwin University is in need of a logo representing their eagle mascot. The university wants to develop a new mascot logo that is relevant to their mission, values, and appeals to current and future students. The new brand mark should be versatile enough to be used across all mediums including print, digital, and merchandise.

Process

The first step was to conduct research and gain a better understanding of the university’s mission, values, and identity. I used on-site experience as the basis for my research. Observing the school and daily student lives allowed me to gain a better understanding of what it means to “be an eagle.”

My research also involved reviewing competitor logos and brand marks. This included noting industry trends and brand guidelines. It was important to me that the new mascot logo would be relevant to other school districts while also holding a unique value.

In the ideation process, I began brainstorming ideas and sketching multiple concepts in Adobe Illustrator. My goal was to develop a range of ideas that were relatable to the students and aligned with the university’s identity and values.

Solution

Our design team suggested that the Goodwin faculty, students, and parents vote for which logo concept to use for their school. The final logo included a powerful and determined image of an eagle, with Goodwin University’s signature sun as its crown.

Impact

The new logo will be used across a variety of mediums, including websites, athletic uniforms, merchandise, and printed documents. It will also be integrated into the school’s social media presence and marketing campaigns to help bring a strong and cohesive brand identity for Goodwin University.
