Problem
The MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) needs a new poster design for Jamie Okuma’s new exhibition. The poster should be visually appealing, thought-provoking and effectively communicate Okuma’s exhibition identity. The design should be adaptable to both a poster and double-sided card format. MoMA aims to create an exhibition poster for Okuma that will enhance the user experience and encourage visitors to engage in the exhibit.
Process
First, I gathered information about the artist Jamie Okuma, her background, artistic style, and previous exhibitions. I also researched the MoMA’s brand identity, and previous printed work.
After researching, I brainstormed various concepts and ideas for the poster design. I created rough sketches to explore different design options. I evaluated the sketches in peer review and chose the most promising ideas. After taking some corrections, I used the color scheme I liked from my favorite iteration and used that as the primary focus for my final design. I eliminated extraneous details and focused on more vector style imagery to convey Okuma’s exhibit.
Solution
Once the design was approved, I finalized the poster and card mockups and prepared the jpeg files for printing. I made sure to consider technical specifications such as resolution, color profile, margins, and bleeding.
Impact
The final poster design creates an impactful and visually stunning print work that reflects the artist’s style and culture while also conveying key information about the exhibition. The poster design showcases Okuma’s signature bold beadwork design by utilizing a vibrant color palette and beautiful typography. The end result effectively promotes Okuma’s exhibition and increases the visibility of her work at the Museum of Modern Art.
