How Do You Market New Content?

Hi! My name is Kristin Ardese and I am a professional Graphic Designer and Marketing Strategist. I hope that by sharing some of my expertise, I can help offer valuable insights and build an engaging community.

In my first medium.com article, I wanted to ensure I reached as many readers as possible. In today’s day and age, social media is the number 1 way to promote content. This is especially helpful since it is also cost efficient, and I am a young professional starting my career. Below are examples of how you can market your content on various platforms.

Twitter

Although Twitter recently increased their character limit, it is important to keep the content on this platform short and concise. In the example above, I included a tagline that will draw the viewer in. Reading “Does work have to be work?” is intriguing and sounds almost contradictory. This is helpful though in catching the eye of a reader as they are scrolling through hundreds of Tweets. In addition, I provided an opportunity for readers to engage in my content. By inviting people to comment below, this increases the chances that my content will be seen by a broader audience. For the image, I decided to use something readable but eye catching. That is why I like the choice of a neon sign portraying my articles message. This will grasp the attention of a Twitter user more quickly than let’s say, a simple photograph of a computer.

LinkedIn

On a platform like LinkedIn, you want to convey a more professional attitude for your audience. Here you might want to write a bit more than you would for Twitter, as there is a greater likelihood that professionals will want to read your content. I made sure to add a reason why reading my article will be beneficial to learning. LinkedIn is a platform where professionals want to grow and learn from other professionals. This is why I made sure to include the words: “learning, success, and happiness” in my caption. The image I would also want to be eye catching, as I want the words to jump off of the screen in the infinite scroll of LinkedIn. These red letters perfectly encapsulate what my article is about, and also will grab the attention of a user.

Instagram

I find that Instagram captions that are too long end up not being read. This is why I decided to keep my caption short and sweet for the marketing of my article on Instagram. I like the idea of starting out my post with “Hello friends” as I think it is more personal which is something that a lot of users confide in with Instagram. For the image, I might choose a photograph. I think that photographs tend to do very well on Instagram, as more often than not that is what people post. I made sure to include hashtags, as they prove to be helpful in popping up on explore pages and thus gaining more traffic on your post.

Final Comments

There are many ways in which to market your content. Social media is an excellent way to get your content out there while still remaining cost efficient. Many people will use Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram in order to gain a following however there are so many other applications to choose from when building your brand. It is important to keep in mind the audience of each app, and what will entice them to check out your content.
